Liverpool v Besiktas: Don't get carried away

Friday, November 09, 2007

Liverpool’s 8-0 win over Besiktas on Tuesday was a fantastic result that should be remembered for a long time to come. However, I do worry that we aren't any further on, as we have been here before. Earlier in the season we demolished Derby 6-0. Again it was a solid victory, but given who we are it should only be expected, we have consistently been one of the top 4 teams in the Premiership and done well in Europe so of course we should be able to beat Derby convincingly.

The problem is that we don't seem to do anything against the bigger teams. We struggled to create against Arsenal and Blackburn. So it is an interesting time, maybe we have turned the tide and the players seem to be settling into their roles and holding onto the form which has been sporadic at best since September. But it could just be that we had another great night in Europe with no link to our home form. Fulham on Saturday will be a good test to see which it is.
