Biblical text clouds

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Check out Craig's blog. Whilst trying to keep track of key words and phrases for his sermons he realised he could use tag clouds. Using tagcrowd.com he has ended up with some fascinating results (the book of Romans and the 10 Commandments):

Make a disco ball with CDs!

Monday, January 07, 2008

Seriously how cool does this look? Obviously if I made one it would never look as good as the one in the picture but it is tempting to give it to some of the young people as an art project:

Turn that stack of free AOL CDs into a dance party: cut them up into small squares, glue gun them to a Styrofoam ball and, presto! You've got a disco ball. Careful, though: cutting CD's with scissors can be difficult. The tutorial suggests dipping the discs in boiling water first to soften them up.

Remove clutter in the background of photographs

Sunday, January 06, 2008

Lifehacker links to a great short article on how to get rid of the background clutter in a photo. The article from Photodoto suggests:

First, I crop such images to remove part of the background. That alone makes the background somewhat less intrusive. But often I don't want to eliminate it entirely; I merely want to de-emphasize it. One quick fix is first to blur the background slightly and then to adjust the saturation of both background and subject.

Photo essay on freedom from prison

Sunday, December 02, 2007

Marko linked about this very powerful photo essay, by a guy who spent 16 years in prison (from when he was a teenager) after being wrongly convicted of rape and murder (the conviction was overturned 16 years later when dna evidence proved his innocence). He talks about what it’s like to enter the world outside of prison after spending all of his adult life behind bars. Some really powerful testimony, captivating images, interesting for a discussion on freedom.

Inspiring art for children's work

Monday, November 19, 2007

Jan von Holleben is a German photographer with a very creative style. His “Dreams of Flying” exhibition is sure to inspire you if you work with children - I am certainly inspired to think how we can use these pictures in our ministry. Thanks to churchrelevance for the tip. Here are a few pieces from that collection:
