I have been thinking recently about ways in which to improve this blog: more original thoughts, less content, change the background, change the name and url to better describe it, have more structure, e.g. days with certain expectations and/or themes over a period of weeks.
What do you think? How could I make this better, more helpful to you as a reader, why is it you read this? All thoughts much appreciated.

Bible.org has launched a new blog, Jesus in Prime Time: Engaging the Public Square about Jesus. They describe it as being "made up of leading Christian professors, writers and thinkers who have come together to engage the media and culture about the person and work of Jesus Christ." The contributors include Craig Blomberg, Darrell Bock, Craig Evans, Scot McKnight, Grant Osborne, and Ben Witherington. Some interesting stuff on this blog so go check it out.

C. J. Mahaney, with the assistance of Tony Reinke, is starting a blog. Here are the closing words of his first post:
I think you can anticipate a disproportionate number of posts on one topic, “Christ and him crucified” (1Co 2:2), for that, by the grace of God, is what I am most passionate about. So here would be my hope for this blog, and for the handful of you that will join my family in reading it. If I can somehow draw your attention each week to the hill called Calvary and remind you of the Savior’s substitutionary sacrifice on the cross for our sins, if I can draw your attention away from yourself and direct your affections to him, then this blog will have served your soul and made some small difference for the glory of God. I pray it does.
This is one blog that I am looking forward to hearing more and more from.

LifeHacker have linked on the way in which Google Reader now allow you to discover when a blog post was actually published as well as received, i.e. how long it took Google Reader to show you that post? If you hover over the time block on the upper right hand side to get a tool tip that displays the published timestamp and the time Google Reader received the item.

As I have thought about next year one of the things that has taken time this year that isn't necessary is that amount of stuff that comes to me in terms of post, emails, blog updates, podcasts etc. While it is important to stay up-to-date I am certain that I don't need all the information, and that there are better ways to organise the information. On the plus side I have found usinng Google Reader has really sped up the way that I stay in touch.
Here is an article from Tim Ferris, author of "The Four Hour Work Week". He has a friend who processes information through RSS and he gives 12 tips for being effective in processing and filtering the information. Here is my favorite!

3) Clean HouseYou’re in charge. Your time is valuable. You’re too good to put up with someone who phones it in. If your friend told boring or pointless stories, would you call them up in the middle of the day and give them your uninterrupted attention? If an author isn’t delivering consistently, cut them out. If they ever improve enough to be worth reading again, you’ll probably hear about it.

A director of Sheffield Wednesday football club has won a court order that compels the owner of the owlstalk fansite to reveal the identity of Wednesday fans who he claimed were behind a "sustained campaign of vilification".
The club's lawyers wanted the judge to order the release of 11 names, but Richard Parkes QC ruled that some, whose postings were either clearly meant to be jokes or abusive but not libellous, should retain their anonymity.
However, three fans who the court identified as using the site to make allegations of greed, selfishness, untrustworthiness and dishonest behaviour, did not escape.
In making his ruling the judge claimed the directors' right to protect their reputations took precedent over the fans' right to privacy.
Dominic Bray of K&L Gates, Sheffield Wednesday's solicitors, says that people posting on website forums and chat rooms do not have carte blanche to say what they like. "The internet is no different to any other place of publication, and if somebody is making defamatory comments about people then they should be held responsible for it," he tells the Guardian. "What these cases do is just confirm that's the law - the law applies to the internet as much as it does to anything else."

A while ago I posted a video from Lee Strobel's website. The video itself is a very good video, my problem is that since I posted it on my blog, it starts automatically every time you open up my blog which is very annoying. Without deleting the video are there any ways to stop it playing automatically or is it just the way it is?

Youth Ministry Interviews Blog

Len Evans has started a new Blog that I have found already to be a very encouraging, and challenging blog to read. This is slightly different to other youth ministry blogs in that it is a Youth Ministry Interviews Blog. Here is how Len describes his new blog:
"I love interacting with people and it's how I best process ideas. I am fortunate to have a lot of friends in youth ministry who sharpen me. I need encouragement in the calling of youth ministry and I want to strengthen my ministry skills. I figured others were like me so I reamed of providing insightful interviews with a variety of people with a passion for youth ministry that would help and encourage youth workers.
It's just starting but I believe the longer it's up the stronger it will be and the more it will bless youth workers. Mark Yaconelli, Waye Rice, Bill Allison, Mark Riddle and Rick Bundschuh have already been interviewed. More are in the works. Some are huge names in Youth Ministry Land and some you don't know but everyone who is chosen can encourage you.

If you have a few minutes here are two blogs well worth taking a looking at.
First, I am off to a summer camp soon and have been finding Deep(ish) Thought by Scott Mackay very helpful. He is in the middle a blog-series which looks at the various 'gospel outlines' available today, it has been great for me to be looking at different ways to summarise the gospel. So far he is covered The Bridge to life,Would you like to know God personally and Two Ways to Live.

Second, Live Intentionally is a new blog which has started recently by live blogging at the Willow Creek Association Leadership Summit. Its aim is to encourage "getting out of ruts, overcoming bad habits, throwing off the shackles that bind many of us to living unremarkable lives" and to help people live up to their full potential. I look forward to seeing more from this blog in the coming weeks.

My blog web address is quite long and unwieldy, and hard to search for, you have to know what you are looking for to find my blog, if you don't know the address. I am wondering about changing it to something simpler like youthworkerchris at blogspot. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
Weekend away

As Alice has posted, I spent the weekend at Ashburnham, helping to lead the youth part of Emmanuel Church's weekend away. It was the church where I grew up as a teenager, that has responsibility for where I am now. They encouraged me as a teenager to test and develop my gifts.
It was a joy to spend time with youngsters, some of whom I remember being born, growing up with such a passion and focus on the Lord. Emmanuel certainly has a great future with those young people. I hope that our time with them was able to support that. Our team (big shout out to Hannah, Sam, and Sarah who were a joy, as ever, to work with) led some sessions based on the HABITS material by Simply Youth Ministry, looking at developing key disciplines, great material by the way, which I really enjoyed using.
